Routemaster Twilight in London
Ever wished you’d filmed in Oxford Street from dusk to night…. “like it used to be”? Your wish has just been granted!
Come with us as independent transport videos teams up with well known author and cameraman John G Lidstone to give you almost 2 hours of wall-to-wall Routemasters from twilight into night-time – and at their busiest West End locations.
We take you back to chilly December 2001 when principal routes 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 19, 22, 23, 38, 73, 94, 98, 137 and 159 are all still 100% Routemaster operated. Savour the Routemaster mecca of Oxford Street under the Christmas lights. Look out for Sovereign’s gleaming refurbished RMs with Dart drivelines fresh into service on the 13.

sound of a traditional halfcab sounding just like a Dart!
As the evening peak hots
up, we give you all the genuine sights and sounds – there’s no commentary
or background music – the buses themselves make all the right noises!
Watch dusk turn to night as dozens of Cummins, Iveco and Scania-engined RMs and RMLs flood past. Look out for a short ride on one of London United’s last two remaining AEC-engined RMs, still with bulb lights aglow, a rarity amongst legions of refurbished RMLs which line the street from end to end.
See inside warm, brightly-lit interiors as Routemasters file past John’s camera, eating up the evening peak crowds and hunting in packs – all just bristling with night time action like it used to be. The evening peak gives you Routemasters to the max!
Next, we turn the clock
forward. Winter 2004 was the last to see normal Routemaster operation and
it’s all here in crisp Digital quality and wholly natural sound.
John brings the scenes
up to date with all remaining Routemaster routes in the prime locations
of the West End such as Regent Street, Piccadilly and Trafalgar Square.
Enjoy the spectacle of Routemasters weaving through traffic across brightly-lit Piccadilly Circus – where John even captures a moving advert animation sequence for Coca-Cola featuring open-top RMs!
