Serbian Trams & Trolleybuses - Belgrade
Belgrade (Beograd) was
the capital of the former Yugoslavia.
Now the capital of Serbia the city is set on the confluence of the Sava
and Danube rivers. This historic city
has a lot to offer the transport enthusiast in the form of trams, trolleybuses
and buses. Public transport in Belgrade
is run by ‘GSP Belgrade’, of which GSP stands for Gradsko saobraćajno
preduzeće. The metre gauge tramway
has twelve routes that radiates from a central area circular route. The first trams ran in 1892, but in the late
2000s there was a complete reconstruction of the system. The current fleet consists of a large number
of ČKD Tatra KT4YUBs dating from 1980 and low floor CAF Urbos that entered
service in 2011. Some Duewag GT6 trams
donated from Basel in Switzerland in 2001 can still be seen lined up at the
rear of the main depot in Belgrade, but no longer in use. The current trolleybus fleet consists of
Belkommunmash AKSM-321s and a few AKSM-333 articulated vehicles all manufactured
in Belarus. In August 2014 the independent
transport videos cameras paid a visit to Belgrade to record and sample
the delights of these vehicles for you to enjoy. Our filming takes
place in and around the city centre, starting at the central railway station where
there is lots of action taking place. We
then move to locations such as Nemanjina, Slavija Square, Beogradska and
Bulevar kralja Aleksandra. We sample a
ride on CAF Urbos 1521 to the unimaginatively named Blok 45 on route 7. From here we travel to Novi Beograd on board
ČKD Tatra KT4 number 280 also on route 7.
At Novi Beograd there is a full-scale replica of the centre of Belgrade
in 1920. Now looking like a disused film
set we change trams here for the busy Ekonomski fakultet tram stop and the Old
Sava Bridge on board CAF Urbos 1527 operating route 13. A further ride is taken on Tatra KT4, 371 on
route 2 to Kalemegdan. A major
trolleybus terminus is at Studentski Trg in the city centre. Here we film the trolleybuses coming in from
the morning peak services before boarding Belkommunmash AKSM-321 number 2074 on
route 29 to Vojislava Ilica. Filming
continues to feature both trams and trolleybuses back in the city centre at
Nikoka Pasic Square, Bulevar kralja Aleksandra and Ruzveltova. We make a brief visit to the main tram and trolleybus
depot to see scrapped trolleybuses lined up along the main road as if waiting
for the scrap man to come! Our filming
is concluded with a final visit to Bulevar kralia Aleksandra and
Ruzveltova. To end our programme we
include a series of photographs of Belgrade trams and trolleybuses taken by
Steve Kelly during his previous visits in 2003 and 2006. We hope you enjoy your visit!
