Lincoln - Easter 2015

The Lincolnshire Vintage Vehicle Society museum based in Whisby Road, Lincoln has two regular open and running days each year.  The independent transport videos cameras made their first visit to the museum in November 2014.  Being so impressed of what we saw and filmed we decided to come back and film the Easter 2015 event – we were not disappointed!  As on our last visit our cameras were in place early in the morning to see the buses and coaches arriving and departing from the Pyke Road bus stops.  There are a good variety of buses and coaches for you to enjoy as we record the event from both the roadside and on board some of the vehicles.  From the action on Whisby Road and Pyke Road we board Lincolnshire Road Car 2245 (OVL 465) a Bristol MW5G with an ECW B43F body for a ride to the small village of Doddington.  This would have been a typical route these vehicles would have travelled on in the 1960s and early 1970s, so suited to the Gardner 5 cylinder engine.  With more action recorded at Whisby Road we now join a former Grimsby Cleethorpes Transport single deck Daimler Fleetline, 35 (GEE 418D) which has a Willowbrook B42D body, for a journey into Lincoln terminating at the city’s railway station.  Here we see some of the current buses that operate in Lincoln today in the shape of Stagecoach’s ADL200 single deckers operating an ‘LN6’ branded service.

Our return to the museum is onboard a 1954 AEC Regent III with a Roe H58RD body in the superb livery of York Pullman.  Our cameras now take a brief look at some of the projects taking place in the museum as well as some of the visiting static exhibits.  It is now time for a ride on a rather unique vehicle! It is certainly an assault on the eardrums!  Lincoln Corporation 23 (DFE 383) is a Guy Arab III with a Park Royal H56R body, but has a Ruston & Hornby air-cooled engine.  Here we sample this rather noisy bus on a journey to the temporary park & ride site and then journey back to Whisby Road.  We then sample rides on two Bristol REs.  We journey out to Lincoln railway station on Bristol RELL6G, ECW dual door bus bodied 356 (FRB 208H) from the Trent fleet and return on Bristol RELH6G, ECW dual purpose bodied 6080 (SHN 80L) from the United Automobile fleet, but painted in National Express livery.  An interesting comparison you will agree.  With more filming completed at Whisby Road we take our final ride of the day.  It is on the ‘City/Cathedral Quarter Tour’ with former Lincolnshire Road Car 1904 (JVL 619H) a Bristol VRT/SL/6G with ECW H70F bodywork owned by Richard Belton.  This beautifully restored bus takes us to the historic Cathedral Quarter of the city in the company of preserved Grimsby Cleethorpes 1962 Daimler CVG6-30 with Roe bodywork.  The late afternoon sunshine shows off the vehicles to their utmost best.  The return journey to Whisby Road is filmed to where this excellent day began.
