Liverpool Buses MTT
Running Day 2018
independent
transport videos welcome
you to our 11th
edition DVD programme of the Merseyside Transport Trust's (MTT) annual
“Liverpool Buses Running Day”. Recording
this event is a great honour for us and for 2018 we have done things a
little differently
for you that we are sure you will enjoy. This year the event was
centred on
Mann Island at Liverpool Pier Head, Aigburth Vale and Penny
Lane.
Buses taking part were AEC Regents A36 and
A267, Leyland Titan L227, Leyland Atlanteans L501, 1111, 1236 and
1365
as well as Leyland Panther 1054. Visiting vehicles were
represented by buses
from Wallasey Corporation, Crosville, Ribble, North Western and even
Wilts
& Dorset to name but a few. These
featured Leyland Atlanteans, Nationals, Olympians, Bristol VRTs, MCW
Metrobus, a
Scania and a Dennis Javelin.
Filming
began early in the morning to capture some of the feeder services
coming into
the city. Our cameras then moved out
onto the streets to see the buses in action.
The locations include West Derby Road, Everton Road, London Road,
Belvedere Road, Aigburth Road and Prescot Road.
Within the city centre we see action on Dale Street and at the main hub
– Mann Island on the Pier Head. For the
first time we fix a camera to the front lower-deck bulkhead window of
AEC
Regent III, A36 (NKD 536). New in
October 1953 this Crossley bodied 56-seat double-decker was the first
Liverpool
Corporation double-decker to be preserved.
We travel on it, with another camera on the upper deck to the busy
Penny
Lane interchange on service 4B. The
action is recorded at Penny Lane recreating scenes from the early
1960s!
We continue our filming at Aigburth Vale and
along Devonshire Road before filming the final arrivals and departures
at the
Pier Head thus concluding a most enjoyable day.
Whilst out filming the event our cameras also filmed some of the
contemporary 2018 bus scene in Liverpool featuring both Arriva and
Stagecoach
buses. Of particular interest are the Stagecoach Scania N230 ADL
Enviro400
double-deckers recently transferred from Stagecoach South and still
branded for
the ‘700 Coastliner’ service that runs between Portsmouth and
Brighton.
Some of these buses can be seen on our
programmes that feature buses in Brighton.
We also see Stagecoach’s latest Enviro 400MMC double-deckers with ’68
registrations, some 9 days old! Our
programme concludes with a Photo Gallery of the day from the camera of
Mark
Youdan. A big thank you all concerned as
usual for putting on this superb show for all to enjoy.
