Bournemouth's Yellow Buses 2021
Bournemouth is
situated in Dorset on England’s south coast.
The local bus company is known as ‘Yellow Buses’ and is owned locally by
the management and continues to wear a yellow livery that has been associated
with the town for some 119 years! During
2021 the independent transport videos cameras spent five months
travelling around their operating area filming the operations of the bus
company for you to enjoy. We have produced
the film that will take you on a geographical ‘figure of eight’ journey around
the network. Beginning in central
Bournemouth we head west to Poole, then north towards Wimborne, and then through
Bearwood and Kinson back to central Bournemouth. The other part of the ‘figure of eight’ takes
us to Boscombe, Christchurch and on to the eastern extremity of New Milton
before heading northeast to Ringwood and then returning to central Bournemouth
where our tour began.
The ‘Yellow Buses’
fleet in 2021 has a good deal of interest for the bus enthusiast. The single-decker fleet consists of a number
of ADL Enviro200 buses, some second-hand from London fleets and Wright
Streetlite Max buses. The double-deck
fleet consists of a former ADL Enviro400 demonstrator, some former London
examples as well as a small batch of ADL Enviro400MMCs. Older double-deckers include Volvo B7TLs with
both styles of East Lancs Vyking bodies, some with convertible open-top bodies
and some carrying Wright Eclipse Gemini bodies that include some permanent
open-toppers. There are Volvo B9TLs with
Wright Eclipse Gemini 2 bodies, some of which were acquired from ‘Preston Bus’
in 2019 and ‘Isle of Man Public Transport’ in 2020. There is also a batch of
Volvo B5TLs with Wright Eclipse Gemini 3 bodies. For the 2021 summer season the ‘Yellow
Coaches’ division in partnership with ‘Golden Tours’ were operating Volvo
B9TL/MCV open-toppers on a sightseeing tour of Bournemouth and are seen in the
blue and white ‘Golden Tours’ livery on this programme. To help with providing extra capacity due to
higher number of visitors holidaying in the Bournemouth area this summer, six
Enviro400MMC buses have been on loan from ‘Reading Buses’. Two of them, 82-seater 1781/2 carry a red livery
and the other four, 1783-6 are 86-seaters wearing the black and green livery of
the ‘Newbury & District’ operation.
They are all seen operating the 1a service that runs between Bournemouth
and Christchurch. ‘Yellow Buses’ and
‘Yellow Coaches’ are the south coast’s largest bus and coach independent
operator and you will see in this programme the beautiful area they have the
pleasure of operating in, from the delightful coastline, New Forest, small
market towns and the lovely seaside resort of Bournemouth. If you want to see more ‘Yellow Buses’ in
action, watch our companion DVD - ‘Bournemouth’s Yellow Buses – Buster’s
