400
Exmoor Explorer
Hop on board, then step
back in time, on this unique open top heritage bus, that takes you on a
30 mile journey, through the most beautiful scenery in Somerset.
What better way to experience breathtaking Exmoor, with its pretty villages,
heather clad moors, deep valleys and dramatic coastline, on board an open-top
double-decker.
Maybe stop for a cream
tea, or discover the castle in Dunster, or head inland to Dunkery Beacon,
Exmoor’s highest point. You discover picturesque Exford, and enjoy
the carvery at the White Horse Inn, or follow the coast to Porlock with
its pretty shops and pubs.
The 400 starts at Somerwest
World in Minehead and takes over 2 hours to complete the route. This
video is a souvenir of the journey. Filmed in late summer 2002 we
take a journey on the bus covering almost the entire route.
The vehicles used are
1956 Bristol Lodekkas with Eastern Coachworks O60R bodies. They are
a batch of three purchased from Southern Vectis earlier in the year.
One is in overall cream livery, the other two in the attractive apple green
and cream scheme still carried from their days on the Island. Two
of the latter were used during the filming of this video.
‘500’ returned to the
Isle of Wight in October 2002 to take part in the Bus Museum Running Day.
Our cameras accompany her on service 2 from the Quay to Cowes and back.
If you enjoy the delights
of open-top bus travel - sit back and enjoy the ride!
