transport videos welcome
you to this, our 16th edition DVD programme featuring the Merseyside
Transport Trust's (MTT) annual September Buses Running Day. Again we return to the city of Liverpool
after the successful event there in 2024.
The city centre bus stops for the event were located in James Street
adjacent to the Monument of Queen Victoria.
Other departure and arrival points used are the familiar Penny Lane
(Smithdown Place), Walton and Belle Vale as well as the use of the Riverside
Coach Park situated on Riverside Drive which was used for the first time last
year. Here some of the visiting buses were displayed as well as being a useful
‘bus station’ for passengers to change buses.
As usual our cameras were on hand to record the day’s events for you to
enjoy.
We recorded some of the
contemporary buses of Stagecoach and Arriva alongside the
preserved buses and took five rides on the preserved buses to bring back the
memories of a bygone era. Our day begins
in James Street to record the first arrivals as they take up their duties. Our first ride of the day is on former
Liverpool Corporation L501 (501 KD), the 1962 Leyland Atlantean PDR1/1 with MCW
H77F bodywork on the 73 route to Penny Lane.
Travelling as a passenger our camera picks up the sounds of this iconic
vehicle. At Penny Lane we film the
action as the buses pass through. We
then board 6036 (UEM 36V), a 1980 built Leyland National 2 with a B49F body in
the livery of Merseyside PTE for the 46 route to Riverside Coach Park. Again a tuneful ride as we travel through the
streets of Liverpool viewing the sights and passing buses and take a brief stop
at Aigburth Vale. At Riverside we change
to 1054 (FKF 933G), a 1968 Leyland Panther PSUR1A/1 with a B47D body built by
MCW for the 3 route ride back to the city centre at James Street. Here we film the action before joining A267
(VKB 900), a 1957 AEC Regent V with an MCW H62R body for the afternoon. We have placed a camera in the cab of this
superb bus and also have a camera in the lower saloon for the 3 route ride to
Riverside Coach Park.
At Riverside we
see some of the action before riding on A267 on the 66 route to Belle
Vale. Again with a camera in the cab,
our ‘passenger’ camera is now on the upper deck to complete the
experience. Our final ride of the day is
on board 1836 (TWM 220V), a Leyland Atlantean AN68D/1R with an East Lancs H78F
body, built in 1979 for a journey from Riverside to James Street on the 3A
route. We have a camera in the lower
saloon for the journey on this interesting bus.
You will see that the ceiling cove panels on this East Lancs body depict
the Liverpool skyline, so look out for two of them as we travel along the road
back to James Street to film the final departures that ends an enjoyable, if a
little wet, day reliving the memories of buses in Liverpool.
